June 9 The Immaculate Heart of Mary

For the most Blessed Virgin, my good Mother, appearing to me, bestowed upon me many caresses, and, after having conversed with me for a long time, she said: “Take courage, my dear daughter, in the health which I restore to thee at the will of my Divine Son, for thou hast yet a long and painful way to go, always upon the Cross, pierced with nails and thorns and torn with scourges. But fear nothing, I will not abandon thee and I promise thee my protection.” A promise which she has since fully made me realize in the great need I have had thereof.

-St. Margaret Mary Alacoque

Prayer of Confidence in the Immaculate Heart

Mary Immaculate, our Mother and Consolation, with confidence I take refuge in your most loving heart. You shall be the dearest object of my love and veneration. I shall always have recourse to you who are the dispenser of the treasure of heaven, that I may have peace in my sorrows, light in my doubts, protection in dangers, and help in all my needs.

Be therefore my refuge, strength, and consolation, O Mary the Consoler. At the hour of my death, graciously received the last sighs of my heart and obtain for me a place in your heavenly home, where all hearts will praise with one accord the adorable Heart of Jesus as well as your most lovable heart forever. Our tender Mother, Comforter of the afflicted, pray for us who have recourse to you.

Amen.

May 31 Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

And in the moments of weariness raise your eyes to Mary, the Virgin who, forgetting herself, set out “with haste” for the hills to reach her elderly cousin Elizabeth who was in need of help and assistance (cf. Lk 1:39ff). Let her be the inspiration of your daily dedication to duty; let her suggest to you the right words and opportune gestures at the bedside of the sick; let her comfort you in misunderstandings and failures, hoping you always keep a smile on your face and hope in your heart.

-St. John Paul II

Magnificat

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;

my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:

the Almighty has done great things for me

and holy is His Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him

in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,

and has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,

and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,

and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel

for He has remembered his promise of mercy,

the promise he made to our fathers,

to Abraham and his children forever.

Amen.

May 29 St. Julia Maria Ledóchwska

Let us offer ourselves to God, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, in the act of thanks and willingness; let us offer our sacrifices in union with Christ the Redeemer and, with our souls in prayer of atonement and conciliation, let us repeat: Lord Jesus, it is for love of you, in reparation for sins and for the conversion of sinners.

-St. John Paul II

Salve, Regina

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy: Hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Amen.

May 28 St. Mary Ann of Jesus of Paredes

My only regret is that I have no adequate means by which to thank the Blessed Virgin Mary, through whose intercession I have received so much strength from the Lord to bear with sincere resignation the many humiliations to which I am subjected day after day.

-St. Pio of Pietrelcina

Prayer of Consecration to Mary

O my Queen and Mother, I give myself entirely to you. To show my devotion to you I consecrate to you this day my eyes, ears, mouth, heart, and whole being without reserve.

Therefore, good Mother, since I am your own, keep me and guard me as your proper and possession.

Amen.

May 26 St. Philip Neri

All her earthly life was a “pilgrimage of faith.” For, like us, she walked in shadows and hoped for things unseen. She knew the contradictions of our earthly life. She was promised that her Son would be given David’s throne; but, at his birth, there was no room even at the inn. Mary still believed. The angel said her child would be called the Son of God; but she would see him slandered, betrayed, condemned, and left to die as a thief on the cross.

-St. John Paul II

Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament

O Virgin Mary, our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, you are the glory of the Christian people, the joy of the universal Church, and the salvation of the whole world. Pray for us, and awaken in all believers a vibrant devotion for the most Holy Eucharist, so that they may be worthy to partake daily of this holy Sacrament of the Altar.

Amen.

May 25 St. Gregory VII

[However] then I think that these illnesses and other temporal mishaps frequently come from the hand of God Our Lord, so that we may have greater self-knowledge and a diminished love for created things, along with a deepened realization of the brevity of this life of ours. In that way we can equip ourselves for the next life which is to last for ever. As I realized that through these things God is visiting those whom He greatly loves, I cannot feel sadness and pain because I am convinced that a follower of God comes out of an illness already half way to being a doctor in the skill of directing and organizing life for the glory and service of God Our Lord.

-St. Ignatius Loyola

Prayer to St. Joseph

O blessed Joseph, faithful guardian of my Redeemer, Jesus Christ, protector of thy chaste spouse, the virgin Mother of God, I choose thee this day to be my special patron and advocate and I firmly resolve to honor thee all the days of my life. Therefore I humbly beseech thee to receive me as thy client, to instruct me in every doubt, to comfort me in every affliction, to obtain for me and for all the knowledge and love of the Heart of Jesus, and finally to defend and protect me at the hour of my death.

Amen.

May 24 Our Lady Help of Christians

Our labor here is brief, but the reward is eternal. Do not be disturbed by the clamor of the world, which passes like a shadow. Do not let the false delights of a deceptive world deceive you.

-St. Clare of Assisi

We always find that those who walked closes to Christ Our Lord were those who had to bear the greatest trials. Consider the trials suffered by His glorious Mother and by the glorious Apostles.

-St. Teresa of Avila

Our Lady, Hope of Christians

Hail Mary, hope of Christians, hear the prayer of a sinner who loves you tenderly, honors you in a special manner, and places in you the hope of salvation. I owe you my life, for you obtain for me the grace of your Son and you are the sure pledge of my eternal happiness.

I entreat you, deliver me from the burden of my sins, take away the darkness of my mind, destroy the earthly affections of my heart, defeat the temptations of my enemies, and rule all the actions of my life. With you as my guide may I arrive at the eternal happiness of heaven.

Amen.

May 23 St. John Baptist Rossi

Dear sick people, I call upon you to address a thought of fervent devotion to Mary, the joy of our hearts, the consoler of all those who suffer. Even if we are tried by pain, we cannot but rejoice in our God, who has clothed us with the garments of salvation and with the robes of righteousness (cf. Is. 61:10), in order to be able to change our suffering into a loving offer, in imitation of our Lady, the co-redeemer. May Mary nourish in you sentiments of sincerity and hope, and may she strengthen also the blessing, which I impart upon you from the bottom of my heart.

-St. John Paul II

Our Lady of Lourdes

O Immaculate Virgin Mary, you are the refuge of sinners, the health of the sick, and the comfort of the afflicted. By appearing at the Grotto of Lourdes you made it a privileged sanctuary where your favors are given to people streaming to it from the whole world. Over the years countless sufferers have obtained the cure of their infirmities—whether of soul, mind, or body.

Therefore I come with limitless confidence to implore your motherly intercession. Loving Mother, obtain the grant of my requests. Let me strive to imitate your virtues on earth so that I may one day share your glory in heaven.

Amen.

May 21 St. Eugene de Mazenod

My request to you, for the love of Christ Our Lord, who not only gave the precept but led the way with his example of obedience, is that you should all make a great effort to attain obedience by winning a glorious triumph over yourselves, conquering self in the loftiest and most difficult part of yourselves, the area where desires and opinions are formed. Then the true knowledge and love of God Our Lord will be able to take possession and control of your inner souls during all this pilgrimage, until the day when He leads you, along with many others won through your means, to the final and most blessed goal of eternal happiness.

-St. Ignatius Loyola

Regina Coeli

Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia:
for the Son you were privileged to bear, alleluia,
is risen as he said, alleluia.

Pray for us to God, alleluia.
Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia!
For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia!

Let us pray. O God, who gave joy to the world through the Resurrection of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant, we beseech You, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord.

Amen.

May 19 St. Theophilus of Corte

How comes it, then, some of the faithful servants of Mary will say to me, that the loyal clients of this good Mother have so many occasions of suffering, nay, even more than others who are not so devout to her? They are contradicted, they are persecuted, they are calumniated, the world cannot endure them; or, again, they walk in interior darknesses, and in deserts where there is not the least drop of the dew of heaven….I reply, that it is quite true that the most faithful servants of the Blessed Virgin, being also her greatest favourites, receives from her the greatest graces and favours of heaven, which are crosses. But I maintain that it is also the servants of Mary who carry these crosses with more facility, more merit, and more glory.

-St. Louis de Montfort

Our Lady of Perpetual Help

O Mother of Perpetual Help, grant that I may ever invoke your most powerful name, which is the safeguard of the living and the salvation of the dying. O Purest Mary, let your name henceforth be ever on my lips. Whenever I call on you by name or even think of you, what consolation and confidence, what sweetness and emotion fill my soul!

I thank God for having given you so sweet, powerful, and lovely a name for my good. Let my love for you prompt me ever to greet you as Mother of Perpetual Help.

Amen.
